Yoga for Movers and Tots (Crawling to Age 3 with caregiver)

Family drop-in classes cost $20 for one adult and child. All siblings pay an additional $5 per child, payable at the studio. Siblings under the age of 9 months are free in Movers and Tots classes.

We offer two classes for Movers and Tots:

  • Fridays at 11 am with Meredith starts on May 4. 7-week series ends on June 22. No class on May 25. Register for the full series for just $115 or drop in for $20/class. To sign up, purchase the “Movers and Tots” class card here.
  • Once monthly on Sundays at 4 pm – drop in or purchase the flex pass. Upcoming classes: May 6 and June 3

Yoga for Movers and Tots is an opportunity for crawlers, movers, and preschoolers to begin to explore yoga – alongside their parent or caregiver – in a caring, safe, and FUN environment. Together we will learn songs, games, and poses that are designed to encourage body awareness, increase attention span, nurture creativity, and generally support development across this range of ages. Each class incorporates repetition, social interaction, music, fun with props … and always play! Duration of class is one hour, with dedicated time for free play built into the first 10 minutes of class. Siblings welcome. Caregivers are expected to fully participate in class, but no prior yoga experience is required for either caregivers or children. Be prepared to join the action!

Please note that we don’t offer make-up sessions for this class. We keep our pricing as affordable as we can, and we thank you for your understanding that in order to remain this affordable, we aren’t able to accommodate schedule shifting or make ups.

Family Yoga Playtime

Sundays, 4-5 pm: May 6 and June 3

Join us in the studio monthly on Sunday afternoons for Family Style yoga. Designed with our tots/preschooler yogis in mind, this class welcomes younger and older sibling and one or more caregiver for an afternoon of family yoga fun.

Together we will learn songs, games, and poses the encourage body awareness, increase attention span, nurture creativity, and generally support development across a range of ages and abilities … but mostly we’re in it for the fun. Caregivers are expected to fully participate in class, but no prior yoga experience is required for adults or children. Come play yoga with us!

NEW! We’ve added a monthly class for the 4-7 year olds! April 29 and May 20, 4-5 pm. Please note that parents/caregivers do not participate in this class. You’re welcome to drop your children off and return at 5 pm, or wait in our reception area. To register, purchase a “family class” card.

Baby & Me Yoga (6 weeks to almost crawling) – Stay tuned for next series

Fridays, 11 am to noon.

Inspired by the Itsy Bitsy yoga model, most of the “yoga” is for the baby, but each week we take time to introduce breathing/relaxation techniques and include some gentle yoga moves for caregiver as well.

Most appropriate from 6-weeks postpartum until baby is mobile. No previous yoga experience necessary. Please bring a receiving blanket and maybe a small toy each week. Also note that babies are always welcome in this space where sleeping, feeding, and even crying are legitimate ways to participate in class, so please bring whatever else you need to be comfortable.

Prenatal Yoga: Stay Tuned for our Next Series

Meanwhile, we encourage you to attend our Sunday 8:30 am Prenatal Friendly class – open to all prenatal students with partners, friends, neighbors, and anyone else looking for a nice Sunday morning stretch.

Prenatal yoga helps moms prepare for birth by building body awareness, stretching, releasing stress, and cultivating concentration. This series is specially designed to build community and and help you navigate the ups and downs of pregnancy as you get ready for the arrival of your little one.

Connect with your growing baby as you connect with yourself. Not sure if prenatal is right for you? You can read more about the class here.

Meredith McCullough

meredithMeredith began her own yoga practice over 15 years ago – first to get a little exercise and later to try to find sanity and balance despite a stressful job as a consultant. She stuck with yoga thanks to a welcoming and vibrant yoga community. Early in her practice she was drawn to an alignment-based school of teaching, connecting to a clear and thoughtful way of articulating poses, an invitation to participate fully and creatively in everyday life, and the fact that laughter on the mat was not only tolerated, but encouraged. She has continued to grow and share her love of the practice ever since. When her first son was born in 2013, she started to take infant, then toddler classes, and her family has continued the journey together. Meredith carries a sense of playfulness into her classes for both children and grownups, and is excited to share with students of all ages the joys and challenges that yoga reveals both on and off the mat.

Meredith is grateful to all her teachers along her path, particularly alignment-based instructors Desiree Rumbaugh, Christina Sell and Ross Rayburn who have influenced and inspired her. She completed her first teacher training at Willow Street Yoga (Takoma, MD) in 2006, followed by Level 1 and 2 Teacher Training intensives with Amy Ippoliti and therapeutics with Amy, Ross, and Jenny Otto. In addition, Meredith has completed teacher trainings for infants and children through ChildLight Yoga, LilOmm, and Tranquil Space. Meredith is the co-author of The Seven Women Project, which she wrote with her mother Karen McCullough. Meredith continues to practice with and learn from her teachers, friends, and family. She just can’t get enough yoga play time!

Adrienne Chu

Adrienne started practicing yoga 6 years ago, when she was pregnant with her first child, as a way to relieve anxiety. When her son became a toddler, they practiced yoga together in tots and tykes classes. Adrienne has an M.S. in elementary education. She did her Itsy Bitsy Yoga training at Tranquil Space Dupont Circle with Siobhan Troy-Carranza, a 10-year veteran teacher of crawlers-4 year olds. Adrienne lives in Petworth with her husband, Keith, and her two children, Jack (5 years) and Elizabeth (20 months).
Adrienne is a long-time Lighthouse student and is thrilled to be joining her community yoga studio as our newest addition to our Family Yoga programs.

Music Together® family music classes, ages birth to five

(Please do not contact LYC about these classes–they are run by a partner organization).

This is a music and movement program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and the adults who love them. We will spend 45-minutes each week singing songs and playing rhythm instruments. We use chants, finger plays, dance and movement activities in a playful, relaxed environment. Tuition includes richly- arranged recordings of all the music (2 cds—one for home and one for the car—plus digital access to stream and download the music), a beautifully illustrated songbook, and a parent guide to help you encourage your child’s musical growth at home.
