Our new Kundalini Fundamentals series might be your answer! Join Brian Carr at Lighthouse Yoga Center as he leads a series of classes of Kundalini Yoga (as Taught by Yogi Bhajan) customized for beginners. Taught on Monday evenings, the practice will be a fairly gentle one infused with energizing kriyas (or sets of exercises), peaceful meditations and revitalizing relaxations. Brian’s classes feature clear explanations while creating an environment where experience is the teacher. No body flexibility is required–only flexibility of the mind!
What is Kundalini Yoga?
Lighthouse Yoga Center is DC’s premier location for Kundalini Yoga (as Taught by Yogi Bhajan). Called the “Yoga of Awareness”, Kundalini Yoga is taught in set “kriyas” which are series of dynamic and static exercises using asansas (postures), pranayama (breath), mudras (gestures), bandhas (body locks), and mantra (chanting). Kundalini Yoga kriyas and meditations use visualization, projection and focus to attain specific effects in the physical, mental and emotional body. It was brought to the US in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan and is a safe, comprehensive and therapeutic practice that is accessible to all levels and body types. About Brian Carr
Brian discovered Kundalini Yoga on accident, walking into a studio in 2012 and taking the first available class that evening, which happened to be an awesomely strange mix of meditation, postures, chants and movement. He found it utterly magical—wait, so you make these hand movements, breathe in a certain way, close your eyes like so, and say these words, and you can feel like this, all the time?—and became hooked. He’s been taking Kundalini classes ever since, building it into his daily life, and is currently completing his 220-hour KRI Level I Teacher Training at Lighthouse. He has a love for heart-based kriyas and meditations (“These should be taught all over DC, everywhere!”) and might have been a dog in a former life, as he loves nothing more than walking through Rock Creek Park every day and chasing a soccer ball.
