What is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of mindful movement, that emphasizes the body’s core (abdomen, obliques, glutes, inner thighs) to create more a more buoyant and resilient form. It focuses on what yogis and exercisers need, including strength, coordination, balance and flexibility.

Students of pilates often comment that they feel an or two inch taller after leaving class because of the emphasis on posture and alignment. With so much variation in the exercises and workout, you’ll never get bored in this practice, because no two pilates workouts are ever the same!

Open to all levels.

About Jamila

Jamila initially discovered pilates when recovering from an injury and found it to be in sync with her personal style of exercise. She loves to use this

discipline to help people strengthen their physical bodies and as well as connect to the body/mind experience through the breath. She also has training in a physical, alignment-based practice of yoga with an emphasis on movement, breath, and meditation. Jamila completed her first 200-hour yoga training with April Puciata, and then completed a second training at Lighthouse Yoga Center with Naomi Gottlieb-Miller. She has attended numerous advanced training modules in yoga, Pilates, and other forms of mind/body modalities.

Jamila is inspired to help students reach their own yoga and Pilates goals in classes that promote healthy exploration, mindfulness, and play.  Her teaching philosophy is also influenced by her restorative yoga training with Judith Lasater as well as her meditation practice with Tara Brach. Jamila also enjoys long bike rides, travel, and exploring different cuisines. Her passion is to help others better understand how their bodies work and how to care them.
