Lighthouse Yoga Center is one of the few yoga studios in Washington, DC that offers alignment-oriented Hatha Yoga classes.

This means that our teachers pay attention to your form and help you find ease in postures more safely and deeply. Our teachers are trained to see human bodies for all their potential, not limitations, and are able to work with all shapes, sizes, conditions, and levels of flexibility.

Andrea Messina, yoga teacher and life coach, teaches an uplifting style of yoga that emphasizes strength-building sequences, deep stretches and a connection to breath. Her teaching is informed by alignment based yoga, vinyasa flow, philosophy and life coaching. She believes that the yoga mat is a place to cultivate awareness and create a juicy metaphor for how you want to live most fully… in addition to getting sweaty and laughing a little. Andrea is co-leading our Yoga Retreat to Cuba from February 16-23. She completed her teacher training at Lighthouse with Naomi Gottlieb-Miller.

Tracy Buro says her favorite thing about yoga is that there is always more to learn and there are always ways to grow, both physically and mentally. Whether it’s working on handstand or finding time to rest in a restorative pose, Tracy finds that a regular yoga practice helps her take the balance she achieves on the mat and carry it through to her daily life. As a teacher, she provides playful and challenging classes that allow students of all levels to have fun, challenge themselves, and leave class with a sense of ease and peace of mind. Tracy completed her teacher training at Lighthouse with Naomi Gottlieb-Miller.

Emily Moore has been part of Lighthouse since we opened. She came to yoga as a practice with the potential to bring individual and social wellbeing by addressing the very root of our inner source of turmoil and suffering. Emily is a 500-hour teacher trained by Sri Dharma Mitra, though her joy is teaching restorative yoga to allow people to deeply relax and de-stress. Her classes are a mixture of vigorous work to get students’ heart rates up followed by a luscious, extended deep relaxation to let it all go.

You can find Emily on Thursdays at 6 pm for Flow and Restore (vinyasa + relaxation).


Melanie Williams found yoga while experimenting with ways to build a relationship with a body she had largely disconnected with. She is called to create profoundly inclusive spaces for self-inquiry and an inward journey by integrating spiritual teachings and accessible, trauma-informed movement practices with the spirit of social justice. Melanie is described by students as a welcoming, intuitive, and adaptively challenging teacher, who is both knowledgeable and constantly learning.   Her classes often include functional movement practices alongside more traditional alignment-based postures and flow elements that link breath and body.
